I’m Rebekah.

Not that long ago, I was depressed, uninspired, working a corporate job in finance that I despised, crying on my way home from work everyday and wondering if this was truly all there is to life.

I decided that instead of just believing these stories I kept telling myself - I decided to question them.

“Who’s voice is this anyway?”

“Where did these stories even come from?”

“Other people seem to have been able to overcome extreme hardships. If they can, why can’t I?”

“If I am “co-creating” my reality - then could it be true that I am the only one who is creating this self-fulfilling prophecy that I am somehow not good enough, smart enough, rich enough or talented enough to live a life that I love, too?”

It’s deep in questions like these that I began to get clarity around the fact that questioning these beliefs would be one of the most powerful things could possibly do in my life.

I started to understand that these were all just programs that had been given to me by society, my parents, my teachers and all those who unknowingly programmed my mind to believe that greatness wasn’t possible for me.

Once I realized this, it was like the wool was pulled away from my eyes and I could finally see clearly…and that’s when I started getting angry. I wasn’t angry at those who unknowingly were a part of this process, but angry at the powers to be who clearly KNOW about this information but decide to keep it for themselves and their families.

It’s deep in questions like these that I began to get clarity around the fact that questioning these beliefs would be one of the most powerful things could possibly do in my life.

I got angry with:

Our schools are designed to keep us as cogs in the system working for “The Man” our whole lives, never realizing our full potential
Societal standards of going to school for the first 20+ years of our lives, only to work for someone else for the next 35+, only to DIE on average 6 years into retirement (like…WTF…who decided this was okay??!)
The fact that it is considered “normal” and even celebrated to NOT use your vacation time or take time off as to not be considered a “slacker”
The fact that I watched COUNTLESS individuals (during my 15-year career in finance) work their ENTIRE LIVES for the dream of retiring financially free only to DIE within the first couple years of retirement (I lost count of how many times this has happened)
Societies desire to make some of us feel “less than” for the attributes that are completely out of our control like race, social class, sexual preference and overall desire to be different
The powers to be for having no problem racking up billions of dollars while the rest of society struggles to get by
How much I used to wear my “hard work” and sacrifice as some fucking badge of honor. I gave up some of the most important time of my daughter’s LIFE, thinking that I was doing the right thing by her because I was making money to provide for us.
