How to use hypnotherapy to master your mind with Johnny Jameson

All right. Hello, hello, and welcome back you guys to another episode of The Elevate U with Rebekah Podcast. I have a very special guest on here today, my friend Johnny, and he is going to be talking about some amazing topics today in helping to reprogram the unconscious mind, which you guys know, is a huge topic of conversation on this podcast. So welcome. Welcome, Johnny, how are you? I'm very well, thank you. Thank you for having me on. How are you? I'm doing great. I'm doing great. I know that Johnny is a new father. And he's got a lot going on in his own business as well. So I just really appreciate your time and you coming on and taking time out of your busy schedule to come on here and add value to our listeners, I know that they're going to get so much value from this podcast. So thank you.

You're welcome. Thank you for having me on. It's an absolute pleasure.

Of course, of course. So guys, Johnny is a master hypnotist and a positive psychologist. And his story is amazing. I know it's going to be really captured my heart when I first met Johnny and I know it's going to capture yours as well. So I'd love to just kind of dive in. But before we do, I have some fun questions for you, Johnny, just for our listeners to get to know you a little bit more. Just some funny questions, just something rapid, rapid fire quick, rapid fire questions. Just to allow our listeners to get to know you a little bit more on a personal level before we dive in. So are you ready? All right, ready? Good. Good. All right. So Johnny, what is your favorite color? Purple? Purple. Oh, yeah, your branding is tough. I

love it. Yeah.

Love it.

Okay, we'll start off with the easy one. How about where were you born?

I was born in a little town called Stockport, which is next. People have probably heard of Manchester, Manchester United. So right next to right next to Manchester. Okay, okay. I know that northwest of northwest of England.

I was gonna say I know our accents are a little different. So people probably wondering Okay, where's Johnny from? Okay, cool.

Yeah,

what is your dream vacation? If you could go anywhere in the world? Where would you go? Oh, the Maldives? Yes. That's my daughter and I is like dream.

Pure paradise. My mother in law's been sad. It's absolutely amazing. Oh, yeah, one day. The bungalows like over the water. She did indeed. Yeah. That's so cool. That's a dream for sure. And hopefully it'll be a reality once they start opening things up here. Right. They will do when the kids grow up a little bit. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Exactly. Okay, what's your favorite food? Oh, chicken into it. So jambalaya. Oh. It's like a pie a basil. It's Yeah. Chicken to it. So Cajun tomato is spicy rice with peppers. With Assad a garlic bread. Oh, yeah. making me hungry. I love on it. I mean, that's not so much Italian but any any Italian food basically, pastors pastors Peters. Specially drove in lockdown. We've had a lot of indoors and a lot of pizzas drawing.

Same here. Yeah. And I grew up in a very Italian family. So yeah, I'm all for it, too. Okay. Love it. What is your spirit animal? A wolf. Yeah. Yeah. courageous. Love it. I love it. I can. I can see that for sure. Awesome. Okay, what is your all time favorite quote, If you had to pick one, or even just like one of your favorites? What is one like to live by?

Well, when I was when I first started, and I sort of personal growth and development, one that always used to speak to me was a quote by huge, hugely successful entrepreneur called Bryant McGill. And he says, a car mind is the ultimate weapon against your challenges. Oh, say it again. A car mind is the ultimate weapon against your challenges. Oh, I love that. Oh my gosh, it's so true as well. So true. And so fitting for you and what you do in the world, right? Absolutely. Yeah.

Cool. That's so cool. All right. Last one, we'll wrap up with this one. If you could have lunch with anyone in the world dead or alive? Who would it be? And why? Oh,

I'm gonna say it's an author. He's my favorite. He's the author of my favorite book actually called Dr. Joseph Murphy. And he wrote a book called The power of your subconscious mind. incredibly intelligent man. And I would just love to pick your brain. Yeah. Dr. Joseph Murphy. Is he still living? No, unfortunately not. Okay. Fortunately, he lives through his books now. Yeah, we'll have to have to check that one out. I feel like you read it. Oh, boy. Yeah, the power, the power of use of observing myself. Being a therapist, I understand the power of the subconscious mind. But yeah, it his was one of the first books that I read, again when I was first sort of getting into my own personal growth and development. And it was one of the first books that I picked up. And honestly, that book changed my life in so many incredible ways.

Wow, that's amazing. It's fitting, again, that you're here teaching this stuff, though. It's super cool. Awesome. Okay, well, thank you for that. I love them to kind of allow people to get to know you a little bit more and kind of break the ice a little bit. So I wanted to dive in and really just ask you, you know, tell us who you are kind of what you do in the world who you help and how you help them. Let's start there.

Yeah, so after a lovely introduction, thank you very, very much. My name is Johnny Jameson, I'm, like you said, I'm a certified master hypnotist positive psychologist. And essentially, what I do is I help people to take back control of their thoughts, their feelings, their behaviors and, and their actions at a subconscious level of their being. And I achieve that through the ancient art of hypnosis, with some positive psychology for an in there and some mindfulness also. So in essence, I help people to reprogram any unwanted thoughts, feelings, habits, beliefs, ideals, using their more powerful part of the mind, which which is their subconscious. Hmm,

I love that. And, yeah, we we've connected on that level too, because I also do, I also am a hypnotist, you've gone and studied this even at a deeper level. So one of the things I want to ask even from here, because I think a lot of people, there are some misconceptions about, you know, hypnosis, and what it entails. Some people think it's, you know, mind control things like, I remember when I first dove into this world, being kind of just hesitant or even a little fearful as to what I was getting into, right. So can you kind of explain like, what is hypnosis? Is it mind control? Right? What is it? And how, how are you acts? How are you actually accessing that deeper level of the unconscious mind through through this work?

Yeah, absolutely. I mean, like you said, there are many misconceptions around hypnosis, and you know, even meditation to some degree as well. And, and I think a lot of these misconceptions stem from almost ignorance in a way but but also, you know, cartoons, for example, or films or, or from stage hypnosis, really, which is, which is amazing for entertainment. But it actually does show the true power of hypnosis. And people think is, you know, the, they will be out of control. And in fact, it's the exact opposite. If anything, when you're in a hypnotic state, you're actually more in control. So you're more in control of your thoughts and your feelings. And another misconception is that people think they'll be asleep. And this is, again, not true. You know, when we say the word sleep, during a hypnotherapy session, what we mean by this is, you know, it's just a deeply relaxed state. And the sleep that actually comes from it derived from from the Greek word hit hypnosis, which means to sleep, from, from the old days from the ancient, the sleep temples in Greece, which, which is essentially what they used to do, they used to go in there, their turn their, their focus and attention from the outside world to their world within. And so you know, the practice has actually been around for 1000s of years. And it was probably more seen as being like prayer back then. But it was it was a hypnotic or deep meditative state. And so basically, all hypnosis is it's a bypassing of the conscious aspect of mind. I mean, I can I can speak a little bit more about the conscious and the subconscious, if you're like in a moment. And so it's a bypassing of the conscious mind. And essentially, people fall into light hypnotic States during the day. And so, what happens is, when you're in a hypnotic state, you are more suggestible. So, for example, when you drive a new car, so I'm sure you've had the experience where you get into the car and you're thinking about everything else other than driving, and and then you actually arrive at your destination. So what's happened is you've actually fallen into a light hypnotic state. And the same goes for, for example, when you're watching TV at night, so when you're watching TV, you're focusing on one thing, your body's deeply relaxed, your minds deeply relaxed, and you actually you slip into a lower brainwave. So you'll move from a beta brainwave, which is, which is our outer conscious awareness, brainwave and you'll start to slip into the alpha in the theater. And the alpha in the theater brainwaves are like meditative, deeply relaxed state. And you see advertisers know this. So they will know that when you're sat on the sofa, watching TV, your your slip into a slight, slight hypnotic state You're there. But you're, therefore be more suggestible to their suggestions on the adverts. So you know, you do drop into hypnotic states throughout the day. And other things when you read in a good book, you know, if if you move your awareness from the outer world and you hold your focus and attention on one specific thing, then that's a light a light hypnotic state.

Yeah, I love that. And it's so true. We and I think people don't realize how often we enter into this state, right? And how we can use it to bypass like you said, it's, it's even kind of just bypassing that critical faculties so that you create those suggestions that are positive, right, instead of being, like you said, influenced by external realities, you know, I always tell my students inside of my programs that hey, if you don't take the time to program yourself with what it is that you want, right, the outside world has no problem programming you with its agenda, right?

Yeah, exactly that, and the thing is, we're constantly being programmed as well. So if you aren't aware of this process, you know, it can be so easy for other people's ideas and thoughts to be imprinted onto your own subconscious, you know, in each and every thought that we have during the day is also imprinted onto you to the deeper level of who you are. And the average person has 6000 thoughts a day, you know, so that's a lot of a lot of Central, you know, if you predominantly think in a negative way, that a lot of negativity that is being imprinted into your into your deepest self was so true. And that's what runs because we understand, too, that like you said, the power the the subconscious or unconscious mind, we can use those terms interchangeably. And how much of our reality they say, you know, statistics show that about 95%. I mean, I know that there's probably some different schools of thought there. But about 95% of our actions on a daily basis are based on what's in our subconscious or unconscious programs. And don't

think that they're in control. But studies have shown that they're actually not, you know, that their unconscious mind has made a choice to do something wait long before, it's average, like, I think eight seconds or so before their conscious mind even kicks in. And it's like, we think we're in control. That's why this work is so important. So how can you use like, with what you do? And what are some of the primary ways that you can use this hypnosis and hypnotherapy to go into really bypassing this critical faculty right? To program and help your clients to basically run on a more efficient autopilot, like you're, you're talking about?

Yeah, so I mean, you can always obviously, hire it and the therapists and to actually do that in the work for yourself, but you can cultivate it, and through through your own self hypnosis, practice, you know, there's a lot of programs out there you can even look on, on free, you get free versions on the likes of YouTube. And but essentially, if you think of your subconscious, or your your total mental capabilities, your conscious and your subconscious as being like a garden, and you as the gardener, you know, you can make that conscious decision as to what seeds you want to plant into your, the rich bed of soil. That's your subconscious. So no matter what seed you planted in your subconscious does not just you know it's non judgmental, it will feed to you more of what you've asked for. So you have that conscious decision, you know, you You are the entity behind your thoughts, you know, your thoughts do not control you, you are in control of them. So you can decide, you know, even if it's just becoming more aware of your thought patterns throughout the day, and being more mindful in every single moment as to what you are, what your self talks like and what your thoughts are like and what you're actually imprinting into your deeper self. Because as you've just said, you know, your subconscious will deliver to you more of what you've asked for. So is a little example, you know, in hypnotherapy, I help a lot of people to kick bad habits. So let's take smoking as an example. You know, smoking is extremely detrimental habit. And what happens is with smokers, with the many clients that I've worked with, I found that there's probably four main reasons why people start smoking is because peer pressure or which closely links in with wanting to fit in with the crowd, and number one is to appear more adult. So a lot of people start smoking when they're teenagers. So they want to appear older, and they feel like smoking is a way they see they see other adults smoking so they think that's a way to appear more adult. And the last one is rebellion. So rebellion against their parents, for example. And what happens is, you know, when they smoke that first cigarette, their subconscious tells them that this this is not good. This is not what they need. It makes them feel nauseous. It could even make them physically sick. It makes them cough, but again, you know, they want to fit in with the crowd or they want to rebel against their parents. So Smoke, the second and the third and the fourth. And what they're doing here is telling their subconscious, this is what they need, they need this to survive, you know, they need this nicotine, these toxins to survive. So with that repeated behavior, their subconscious will make sure that they want to cut they continue smoking. So when their nicotine levels drop, you know, your subconscious will will signal to them or to the smoker, that your nicotine levels are low, you know, so they'll send the subconscious will send it in the form of cravings to say, you need to get these levels back up. So essentially, what they've done is they've tricked their subconscious to think I need these toxins, you know, I need this nicotine to survive. And the same holds true for negative thinking, you know, if you if you if you go throughout your day, living in fear, or doubting yourself or feeling unworthy, your subconscious thinks that you need that, that you need that to survive. So it will send you more things to feel fearful about more more reasons to feel unworthy. You know, so it's about being in that moment, switching that thinking, as soon as you start to recognize any any negative thoughts, or if you feel in a negative way, is breaking that pattern. You know, and I give a lot of my clients pattern interrupt techniques to use, and just in their in their everyday life, so they can start to switch that thinking, because it's so crucial. It's so so crucial.

Wow, it's so powerful. And what you were saying about the smoking piece, you know, talk a little bit more about that. And obviously, you know, when people are trying to quit smoking, they're relying on like willpower, right? I actually smoked for a short period of time, whenever. Oh, yeah. And it was so it was really hard to quit, right? It was it was awful. So talk more about how not to rely on that willpower, like why does willpower not work? Because it sounds like it's way deeper of a, you know, driver there, then just being able to say, Okay, I quit, like, why is it so hard? And then how do you overcome that versus trying to rely on that willpower?

Yeah, so we briefly touched on this before that the two aspects of mind, so we've got the conscious aspect and the subconscious. Now your conscious, like you've said only accounts for 5%. And your conscious as your decision making mind, it's your connection to your outer world, your material physical world, and interacts with the outer world through the fiber bound senses. So sight, smell, sound, touch taste. And it's also home to willpower. So when people try and use willpower to change a habit, or to change a belief, or even to achieve a specific goal, they're only willpower is only temporary. So they're only actually accessing that 5% percent of their mental capacity. You know, and it's only a temporary measure. So that's why people give up so quick. The same goes for, for losing weight, for example. Whereas the far more powerful aspect of the mind is the subconscious. So if you can bypass the conscious and tap directly into that subconscious, your subconscious is in control of your habits, your beliefs, your behaviors, your ideals, your imagination, your creativity. And it's also home to intuition as well, which is an incredibly powerful thing. And which I've really been working on a lot over the last sort of five years even is really listening to myself and being guided by my intuition. And whereas your conscious aspect of mind interacts with the outer world, your subconscious interacts with the metaphysical world. So at the turn of the 20th century, quantum physics found the universal field or you know, or the quantum field, as it's also known by, and this is a field of just pure energy of information in energy. And it's your subconscious that can interact with that information in energy, and also intuition. So we can get guidance, you know, we have an internal guidance system that we can use every single day, and it will take you on the right path, you know, if you can stop listening to the ego so much, because the ego is so powerful it trying to keep you where you are, because it thinks I mean, it does it because it thinks it's trying to keep you safe, you know, so it will keep you exactly where you are with feeding you with negative thoughts and negative negative feelings and, you know, feelings of doubt and indecision, and unworthiness. Whereas if you can bypass that and go straight to that metaphysical where all things have derived from all things are created within this, this universal quantum field, and then you can achieve your goals far faster and far more effectively as well. I love it. And on that note, if that's where oneness comes from, you know, we all derived from this energetic field. it you know, you can call it the superconscious Some people call it you know, the The grand architect of the universe, Universal Mind, God, you know, this is our connection. And that's how we connect through our consciousness and our subconsciousness. And that's how we can be guided by intuition. Oh my gosh, I love that you brought all that up. hypnotherapist means I'm a talker?

No, please, please do not apologize. I love where that conversations go. And that's a big part of what we talk I talk about with all my students as well. And my clients, which is, you know, it's coming from there's the three bodies, right, which is your, your physical body? Well, there's actually four bodies, physical, your mental, your emotional, and your spiritual body. And a lot of times, where thoughts and ideas stem from, like you mentioned, is that spiritual body, which is the connection to the higher self or the elevated conscious mind or whatever, again, you want to label it. But typically, when you know, you're getting that inspiration, that intuition, right, it's coming down into each of the four bodies. And the last place that it's going to show up is that physical manifestation, but if there's unconscious blockages, energetic blockages, baggage, things like that, that will, you know, kind of get in the way. That's where most people don't end up bringing those physical manifestations into reality, because they don't take the proper action steps that they're being guided to take. So I love that you brought that up.

Yeah. And it might might you say it's transferred that they read each dimension, isn't it? So tribe call they can talk about in the Cabal. So? Fire, Water Earth? You know, each one? Yeah.

Yeah. And there's so many different ways, because, obviously, you know, it's, we can look at it from the mental perspective, the energetic perspective, and all of that, and it reminds me to have like, the logical levels of change. Have you seen that before? Remind me. So I can't remember, I can't remember who the author or the creator of this was. I'm blanking on his name. But it talks about how it's like a triangle. And if you if the list Yeah. Yeah, so like, at the very bottom, it is, you know, spirit or intuition or God or purpose, whatever you want to call it. And that's really the biggest driver of you know, your, your guidance system, like you mentioned, and then that's kind of like one tear up from that is your identity. So your identity and who you unconsciously believe that you are, is way more important than behaviors that you might take, which is kind of like way at the top of the triangle, right? So do the logical levels of change, guys, you can you can see what we're talking about? And a lot of Yeah,

I think I've seen it called the transformation triangle also used in NLP quite a lot, isn't it?

It is, yeah. And what they're discussing is exactly what you're saying, which is, you know, people try to change their behaviors, which is way at the top of the triangle, right? Whenever they don't change the unconscious identity, their beliefs, their values. And so it's like Tony Robbins, will use this example where it's like, Hey, did you did you get up? And did you smoke a cigarette today? And, you know, if if someone's not a smoker, they're gonna say no, because I'm not a smoker. Right? their identity is not that of a smoker. So it kind of correlates where if someone is a smoker, right, they're gonna say, Yeah, I did, because I'm a smoker. So it's more important to shift that identity. Right. I love that. And so what are the primary ways that you find people need help with hypnotherapy? What are the most effective areas of life that you would use this kind of work in to help create transformation?

Yeah, so it's anything that involves the subconscious. So any any habits, any habitual behaviors, any beliefs, any deep rooted beliefs, so our beliefs are created, predominantly, at a very early age, they say before the age of seven, we pick up most of our beliefs from our parents, our peers, our friends, our school teachers. And so you can you can very effectively transform any, any beliefs that may be holding you back or acting like shackles and holding you back. And any idea or you know, goal setting and being able to be able to tap into your creativity. So they've been able to calm the mind, quiet the mind. And then listen, listen to the thoughts that come in, because that you've just mentioned, you know, that is, that is when we quiet our mind when we turn our attention from the outside world and turn it to our inside in a world. That's when we can really start listening. And that's when we're going to get the guidance. That's where we get the ideas you know, for the new business, for example, you know, or want certain goals that you might want to achieve. So things such as weight loss is great in regards to hypnotherapy, because a lot of weight in regards to weight loss is probably 90% mindset, really, you know, it's what you consume. And yes, obviously physical exercise is important. But the vast majority of it, I would say is what you eat. Exactly what you consume. And also be mindful of what you eat as well. And in appreciating your food and savoring every bite, so I teach that to a lot of my clients, we do a lot of mindfully in exercises. So anything in regards to habit breaking, you know, even biting nails, for example, you know, it's a popular one in regards to hypnotherapy, but then also transforming sort of deeper self beliefs in regards to like self confidence and self esteem. And, for me, confidence is one of the most important things in the world, and, you know, working with my own experiences, working with many clients, so many people are held back by fear, and the fear of failing the fear of success, the fear of being judged, or, or stepping outside their comfort zone and trying something new. Fear holds so many people back, you know, it stops them from living their ideal lifestyle. And so cultivating confidence is incredibly important. Because you know, what destroys fear is confidence. It's the polar opposite. And so yeah, you can help people in a multitude of ways. And essentially, and what's important, you know, which is, I do a 20 minute strategy session with any potential clients, a lot of my clients come by referrals. And it's so important that they want to change, you know, that that's what's crucial, I'll, I'll get phone calls from the partner saying, you know, my husband needs to quit smoking, for example, or my, my, you know, my partner needs to lose weight. And, and I say, Well, you know, they're there to talk to me, do they want to do this? Do they want to quit smoking? Now? Oh, no, no, no, you know, we've got no idea that I've called you up. And I'm like, Well, you know, get them, get them to give me a call back when they are ready. Because you, you need to make that decision to change your life. Ultimately, most people unfortunately, only do that when they hit rock bottom. And which was the same in my own case, essentially, you know, I didn't, I didn't look into hypnotherapy and meditation and positive psychology until I hit rock bottom. And I think that's the same for many people. And so yeah, it's about really taking back control of where you want to take your life.

I love that. I love that you bring that up? Because Yeah, ultimately, it's like you, you've got to be the one right? the unconscious mind takes the direct command, it's looking for how things can are important to me, what does this mean, to me, it's always looking out for Yeah, he right you.

And the thing is, to sorry, yeah, your subconscious will deliver to you deliver you to your goals, it always will, that's all that's looking to do. So if you set yourself think of your subconscious mind has been a vehicle, right, and you've got your goals, you're at one end of the street in your vehicle, and your goals are at the other end of the street. And that road to your goals can either be smooth, or it can be a dirt track, it can be filled with potholes, and cracks and bumps. And you can think of the way that you think and the way that you feel as being those and you know, if it's negative, it will be potholes and cracks in, in bumps in the road. Or if you think positive, and if you've got positivity running throughout your entire being your subconscious, your conscious, you know, that's like tarmac, in that road, smooth in that road out, and in delivering you to your goals far faster. And in a smooth fashion as well.

Yeah, I love that. And I love that you brought up most people not, you know, not starting on this journey until they are kind of at rock bottom. Because that's important thing to note, you know, this is these are things that we need to consider even if we are, you know, not at rock bottom, right? But if things in your life are not exactly really the way that you would want them to be, then this is the thing, this is something that you can consider now, right. And so I'd love to just kind of even pause there and really hear, have our listeners hear a little bit more about your story. Like how did you even get into this? What did that look like for you? And what was that rock bottom kind of like this needs to change moment in your life?

Well, yeah, I mean, um, so I've been engaging in personal growth for for nearly 10 years now. And in 10 years previous to that served in the British Armed Forces. So I spent, you know, was just under 10 years in the British Armed Forces managed to climb through the ranks a little bit was loving my time there. I've got to be honest, I made friends for life. And But it wasn't until I returned, I did a new numerous tours out in the Middle East, in my final talk was particularly difficult or we lost. And you know, I lost a number of close friends, we lost people who went through serious injury and then obviously killed in action. And when I returned home, I knew I wasn't quite quite right. You know, I was constantly living in the past my my days were consumed by images and negative thinking and guilting and fear and anger, you know, consume me on a daily basis and I ended so much. So I ended up in a dark pit of despair is the only way I can describe it really. And so much so that I couldn't function, I couldn't function in my everyday life, I was suffering from night terrors. So I didn't, I didn't sleep properly, I turned to alcohol in order to be able to sleep. And, and things just went downhill from there, I fell into a depression, I ended up having to leave the Armed Forces because I just couldn't, I couldn't function as a human being at that time, let alone as a soldier. And Things just got worse and worse. And I've got to be honest, it got to a stage where, you know, I was hurting my my family, I was hurting my friends, I wasn't in a relaxed hold down, there was no chance I was gonna hold a relationship down. And I was just lost completely and totally lost. And my days were just filled with feeling negative thinking negative. And which of course, as we know, now delivered more things for me to be negative about my fire, because I'd lost had to leave the Armed Forces my my financial situation went to ruins. And, and had did that old typical thing, you know, man open, get on with it, we always got to I got told from a young age, just man up. And you know, things happen, you just got to get on with it, but a little up, and you know, don't talk about it. And so I live my life like that for a number of years. And it got to a stage where there was a there was an occasion where I tried, I tried to take my own life in. And that was my wake up call really. You know, I was I was so lucky in the fact that I had close family and friends who were there to look out for me and support me because I know that not everyone is in that situation. Not everyone is as blessed as that. And, and that was my my wake up call in the sense that, you know, something needs to change here. And, and I did reach out, I eventually wrote spoke to someone which was just that, you know, even speaking to someone telling them about what you've been going through what your what your everyday experiences are like, it just lifts such a big weight off of your shoulders. And after speaking to someone and I started to you know, I started to doubt that I tried to numerous different therapies, you know, some, some therapies are great. Others didn't work for me, I think is what works best for you. And someone said to me about hypnotherapy. And at that time, I was just like, wow, you know, I was the, you know, I was so ignorant. At the time, I was probably the most skeptical person out there in regards to meditation or hypnotherapy, or yoga or anything like that. And it was a close friend of mine who had also been diagnosed with post Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. So So yeah, when I reached out, I eventually got diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder, PTSD. And just having that diagnosis was actually a bit of a weight off my mind. But a good friend of mine who was also suffering, he tried hypnotherapy. And he started to explain a little bit about it. So I thought I was at a dead end, you know, I had gathered up what little money I had left. And I booked a two session three sessions, I think it was worth it and the therapist. And then after that first session, I noticed a massive change. One of the biggest things for me at that time was was sleep, I could not sleep, I was fearful of sleeping because of the night terrors. And, and that first night, after seeing a hypnotherapist I slept so well soundly, you know, no dreams. And well, no dreams that I could remember anyway, which was, which was amazing. I thought, well, maybe there is something to this. And so I started to research it a little bit more, I started to look at how our thoughts and our feelings affect our lives, read in

personal transformation books, you know, things such as, like thinking Grow Rich, was one of the first books that that I read about it. And that speaks about self hypnosis. Again, I mentioned earlier the power of your subconscious mind, Dr. Joseph Murphy, incredible book. And I just I really dived into it. And it also gave me something to focus on. So to focus my attention on and the more and more practice and or go into seeing a therapist and then practicing self hypnosis, pattern interrupt techniques, practicing mindfulness, my life just actually just got better and better, you know, day by day, it just got better and better. And I started to see a light at the end of the tunnel, which I never thought there was this period of time and never, never thought I would get to that place. And, and from there, I just grew and grew and it's just constantly learning, isn't it, as you well know, it's, it's just constantly gaining more and more knowledge and trying to, you know, expand as much as you can as a person and to help other people expand as well. And that's where I got to a point where hypnotherapy did such an incredible impact on my own life, that I wanted to be able to help others now. And I don't know if that was at that time if that was some sort of you know, And knowledge from, from my intuition or from from our higher power to say, you know, you can, you can transform people's lives, you can help people do this, I think especially being an ex soldier as well. So listen to an ex ex soldier speak about, you know, it's okay to talk, it's okay to share your emotions, it's okay to meditate or sell, you know, practice self hypnosis, that's absolutely fine, you know, and it might be able to help other people to, you know, who are suffering, who are struggling, or who just want to enhance their life in some way to look at these, these deeper aspects of mind, really, and how crucial it is to be in control of your thoughts, your feelings, and your daily actions. So that's just a little bit of a little bit I went on again, then I can probably tell I'm podcast episode is probably going to be about three hours long.

No, you don't have to apologize. I mean, honestly, I would if I was like, hung on every word, because I've heard the story before. But the reality is, this conversation is so necessary, because I think especially, and I do think that society is getting a bit better, but I remember having others when we were younger, and, you know, my brothers were always told, like you said, like, you know, I just remember hearing boys don't cry, and you don't, you know, you just got to toughen it up, you're just, you're a man, you're a boy, you don't need to do that. And I think that that's, that's created this society of men who feel as though their emotions and their thoughts and the struggles and the anxiety and the stress that they're dealing with is not important, and that they just need to shut up. And I think that that has also created, you know, such a toxic environment. So the fact that you're here speaking about these things, as an ex soldier, that's, I mean, truly, that's what even drove me so much to your story and to the impact that you're going to make on the world because this is a necessary conversation. 100%, you know, men and women equally, are, their, their thoughts, their emotions, and what they're struggling with is important. And I think that sometimes, you know, I look at the struggles that I went through my life, and I just realized, Hey, I went through these things. So that, like you said, right, so I could be a blessing to other people. Like, I can look back now and know that all of those struggles, were for a specific reason. And coming out on the other side, being blessed enough to literally have been through what you've been through, and now be on the other side, wanting to help others, it is extremely admirable, you know, and it's, it's amazing, and I 100% know that it was an intuitive guide, you know, or, or your higher self that brought you here, because this is a conversation that needs to be had. And I remember hearing that story for the first time when we first met, and I was just so drawn to that, because you you are speaking out, and you're really doing such great work in the world. And I just honor you for

that. Yeah, I mean, it's, you can say, I think it's our generation now is, like you say, starting to open up and talk a little bit more, I mean, you can see it in the health of some of, you know, say our parents generation, for example, a lot of the men there would not speak out, you know, they bottle things up. And, and all that does is it creates stress within the body and your stress hormones, adrenaline, cortisol will increase, but then there's no way to release that stress. And in cortisol is extremely damaging, it shuts your immune system down. So you know, if someone's going in for an organ transplant at hospital, the effort, so we'll give that patient corticosteroids, which is basically cortisol. And the reason they give them the stress hormone is because it's too short their immune system down in the hope that that new organ will take. And so that just shows how, like, you know, stress or even like negative thinking, which creates stress, negative feelings that create stress, and how stress is so detrimental to the body. And a lot of people live in stress nowadays, but it used to help, you know, 10,000 years ago or whatever, when we had to flee a predator. But nowadays, people get stressed by emails or a conversation or go into work, and there's no way for them to release that stress effectively. Unless they do train, for example, you know, in the can release the adrenaline release the cortisol, of the practice meditation or self hypnosis, that's another way to bring those, those stress hormones back down.

Yeah, I think that that's such a great conversation too. Because, yeah, ultimately, especially now, you know, people were stressed before the global pandemic came out, you know, so this is even adding so much more stress. And, as you mentioned, you know, putting your body in a state of stress has been proven, you know, time and time again, being in that, you know, sympathetic nervous system that fight or flight scenario versus the parasympathetic, which is peace, you know, and internal peace, right? That place of calmness, that place of peace when you're in that period. sympathetic nervous system, that's what your body can heal, right? When you're in sympathetic or fight or flight, like you said, literally all of your energy is going to your extremities not being pulled back into the body to heal. And so that's, like you said, really good for, you know, a caveman that was trying to get away from a bear or whatever it is. But the reality is, that's not helpful now. So you know, this, and this podcast is all about helping people get to that next level to really elevate whatever that looks like. I mean, some people might be here, struggling with these thoughts of anxiety, struggling with something major in their life that they've been trying to shift for a really long time. Maybe it is weight loss, maybe it is smoking, maybe it's just negative thoughts, you know, what are some of the like, what is the first step, that if our listeners or someone is struggling with this, what would you recommend is the first step to take to really get some help around this, either by themselves or even outside? You know, working with someone like yourself, who is a professional in this area that can help them like what would you tell them to

start with?

Yeah, like you say, it does depend what level what level you're at at the moment. So you know, if you do if you listen to Do you ever feel like they're at rock bottom, or really trying to or facing a specific challenge in their life, again, I'd say one of the most crucial things to do is to reach out to someone, and to talk to someone in seek help, you know, if it's people who are slightly further along in their, their personal or professional growth. And I'll tell you, one of the most important things I mentioned this earlier is to is to cultivate self confidence. And so to be confident, you know, confidence destroys fear, the biggest thing that holds people back is fear, without a doubt, and, and also to be more mindful in the moment. So, you know, mindfulness is cultivate in present moment awareness, or holding your focus and attention in the present moment, not being distracted or feeling guilty, or regretting thoughts of the past or not fearing the future, feeling nervous or anxious about the future, it's about being in that moment, and enjoying that moment. And because the present moment is the only place you can be happy, you know, things that have happened in the past, we can learn from them Fair enough, learn from them and move on, don't be held up, you know, thinking about the past or regretting experiences or events of the past. And the future is not here yet. And the only the only place that you can create a new future is in that present moment. So cultivate in present moment awareness, letting go of any thoughts of the past, letting go of any thoughts of the future, and listening to yourself, you know, listening to your own inner inner self talk. And because you can get guidance, you can, like I said, intuition will guide you, I listened to it each and every day. And the only way you can do that is by quieting the mind. And, and, you know, if you do harbor any negative thoughts or feelings, a lot of the time I've already mentioned, that's just your persona, your ego, and trying to keep you where you are. And if we can move past the ego, so any negative thoughts and negative feelings, get rid of them straight away, focus back on something positive, whether you use you know, gratitude or something, you know, a practice like that, to shift your awareness back to that positivity. And then listen, listen to you in your inner voice because it will guide you.

I love that you bring all that up too. And one of the tips that I use for clients who are in this scenario, too, is Hey, when they have one, one negative thought, overcome it with, you know, two or three positive thoughts and even that awareness is so powerful. I think people you know, under value, just even bringing awareness to things sometimes that's enough to shift it right. It's like just being aware most people walk through life though on autopilot just thinking like, Hey, this is who I am, I'm just a depressed person, I'm just a miserable person or I'm just sad all the time. And the reality is that if you can kind of disassociate like you said, You are the being who's creating those thoughts, you are not your thoughts. So if you can kind of disassociate from that and really allow yourself to kind of just observe those thoughts. Bring some awareness to them, even sometimes that's enough to shift them. Right. Yeah, I think that that's such a powerful powerful thing and let me go back really quickly to confidence because I want to I think that I'm you're so right on competence being such a powerful, powerful tool. What are some of the best ways that you can cultivate confidence if you really feel like you lack it right now?

Do you have a really powerful way to do it is called the act as if technique. So if you go about you know, where they say that if you smile, you know, that automatically creates feelings of happiness. Act confident it works. You know, it sounds such so simple, but it actually works if you act as if you are confident person, a more more beneficial way to do to do it is, is to, like I said, quiet your mind. Take yourself somewhere where you can shift your attention from the outside world to your world within, concentrate on your breathing for a few minutes, that's a great way to focus on your internal world. And then you can use something simple like positive subject, we call them suggestions in hypnotherapy, you've probably heard them called affirmations, you can repeat affirmations to yourself whilst do it that deeper level. So whilst you're you could, you could perform a short body scan to help you feel even more relaxed. That's basically where you just move through each part of your body and you consciously tell it to relax, focus your attention on your breathing, and then repeat positive affirmations or creative visualizations another great way. So for example, if if, let's say you've got a speech to do, you're going to do a TED talk, let's say, and you're a little bit nervous, you know, you feel like you're lacking a bit of confidence. If you take yourself into that situation beforehand, mentally, and visualize yourself on that stage performing to the best of your ability, then you are already imprint in that into your subconscious mind. And a lot of boxes use the likes of creative visualization of sportsmen in general. So you know, use the likes of visualization because they can put themselves into that event beforehand. And that destroys the the the feelings of fear beforehand as well. And your your imaginations incredibly powerful. Your subconscious mind cannot detect if it's a, you know, a real life experience, or if it's something that's imagined. And it reacts and exit, and it responds in exactly the same way. So creative visualization is an incredibly powerful tool to use as well.

I love that. And I literally, it's so funny that you bring that out, because I use that every single day for every appointment, every interview everything I see it happening before the way that I want it to happen. And it just, it's almost like you're kind of predicting the future, because it typically works out exactly the way that you see, it's kind of eerie sometimes. Yeah, but it's so powerful. And that visualization process can be so huge and helping you. So I love that. I love that. So, what's next for you? I know you are you right now you're working with clients, typically one on one, right? And you've got some programs, but tell me what's next for you in your world? And what are you excited about?

Yeah, continue. Same ones, one clients absolutely love it, you know, I've got online courses available as well, just to help a broader amount of people really, in two weeks time, 12th of August, I've got me my first book has been released. So I've been working hard on that at the moment, which is taking up a lot of time. But now that I've thoroughly enjoyed the whole process of Ryan, it's, it's called your best year yet. And it's a practical guide to creating your ideal lifestyle with the mindset, the habits and the beliefs to support it. So we can't change, you know, yes, the most effective and the fastest way to change any any habits or subconscious, you know, beliefs and behaviors is to use the likes of hypnotherapy or dynamic meditation. But you can do it, you know, you can do it in a non hypnotic or non meditative way. So that's what this book is designed for. Now, I have put some meditation practices in there. And scripts almost that people can read through or just guidelines of how to do it. But for the most part of the book is, is got exercises in there to help people start reprogramming any habits, any beliefs, any any ideals at a subconscious level. And then we end the book by setting them setting them up with a strategic plan to live the best year of their life. From that point on. Sam has been working hard at that in a minute. And people are my newsletter has been really popular at the moment. So I'm really enjoying doing that every Monday. And it's called the ABC 123 newsletter. And it's basically what it is. It's a brief chapter, discussing one topic with two actions to take away and then three self self reflection questions to ponder. So I've been doing a lot of work with that getting that ready. And yeah, that's going extremely well. So excited and happy about that. And of course, just, you know, engaging in my own continued personal growth and development and then helping others to do the same.

I love that. Oh, I can't wait to get my hands on the book. And your podcast is amazing. So you're also the host of a top 20 self development podcast. I saw his dad got top 20 Wow, congrats. of August two weeks today. If you want you can go to mind reinvention comm forward slash your best year yet book, and you can join the waitlist there.

Oh, alright, I'm gonna go do that for sure. So I love the name, right mind invention, too, because I think that, and again, this is something that I noticed in our society, but we really tend to give a lot of praise to people who reinvent themselves on a physical level, right? Like when people lose weight, or, you know, they're just whatever they're, they're in the gym a lot, you know, you can physically see their, quote unquote, reinvention, right of their body, and of that physical manifestation. But I don't think that we give enough credit to people who do that inner work, right, not the outer work with the inner work. And I mean, ultimately, I believe that everyone is, you know, it deserves credit for all the work that they're doing, whether it's external or internal, but I love that you're again advocating for that reinvention of the mind, because the truth is that your body, you know, and I don't know the exact number, but your body, on a cellular level is reproducing so rapidly that you have a new physical body every like three to seven years, I've heard difference.

50,000 cells a second?

Yeah, it's crazy, right. And so it's amazing, because we have a new physical body every so many years, and yet we still live, a lot of times in this place. of, you know, we're always living in the past. And the way that I try to, you know, communicate with with my students and clients is really, hey, if you wouldn't do whatever it is, like, if you're experiencing a lot of guilt in your life, or, you know, regret and things like that, if you wouldn't do what you did again, today, then you're convicting an innocent person, you know, you're really convicting someone who would not even make that same decision. So you have a new physical body, the only place that all of this guilt and shame or, you know, these negative emotions and limiting beliefs live is in your mind. So I love the fact that you talk about reinventing that, because you can do that. And I think that we need to spend more time celebrating the individuals who do the inner work that it takes to reinvent their mind, and really become a new person from the inside out. Because that is some hard work. Sometimes it takes a lot of dedication, and you don't get enough credit for it because people can't see it. Right. So I love that I love that name. And I love what you're advocating for. And I think that you know, your, again, the work that you're doing in the world is so important. And I just love it. I'm so excited for all this to come for you.

Thank you very much. And of course, the work you do incredible.

Thank you. Thank you. So we're gonna I want to be mindful of your time. So we're gonna wrap it up here. But I want to know, do you have any last thoughts, anything else that you would like to add? For someone who is maybe just starting their journey or they're, you know, looking to continue on this journey of self development? I know you've done an incredible amount of internal work. So any last thoughts or advice that you have?

Yeah, I would say to all your incredible listeners, you know, just to remember that you already have the power, you know, you already possess the power to change your life. Everything that you need to transform, your life is already at your disposal, and you hold all that power within. You have all the resources necessary to start making positive changes in your life and to start making positive changes today. You know, growth in transformation. The basic human conditions that many people find challenging And you must have the courage, you've got to have the courage to change, you must, you must know what you want in your life, and you must step into the person that's going to get you there. So just remember that you already possess that power within.

It's so, so powerful, because you're so right people are, they have what it takes. And sometimes they just forget that just know that you were born with everything it takes, right. And sometimes the world can break you down through experiences and things that you pick up on traumas and other things. But you're so right, Johnny, you have what it takes already, usually to remember, right? Remember your power, remember that you are the creator of your thoughts, you're the creator of your reality, and just stepping back into that is just can be life changing. And you see that in the likes of Johnny, you see that in the likes of me with my story, and so many other amazing individuals who have overcome so much in their lives to be a light in this, you know, in this world for others. So, yes, I love that. I love that last bit of encouragement there. And I appreciate you so much, Johnny, again, thank you so much for your wisdom. I know we could talk forever. And honestly, every time we talk I just I'm always picking up on new nuggets and things so I just appreciate your time. I thank you. I know that you are busy but guys, definitely go check out Johnny's so much amazing wisdom, and so much value to give in this world. So definitely check him out.
